Richard Sceiford

Richard Sceiford is the director of the Carolina Civic Center and I am going to go focus of what he does for his job and how he takes care of the theater. He plans all the events that the center holds and has been apart of repairing the Civic Center since the beginning which was a little over three years ago.

I would interview Sceiford to get the story and also take a tour of the Carolina Civic Center and see how it has changed. I would also interview people who have been members of the Carolina Civic Center before it was renovated and after to see how much it has cahnged

It would mostly reach to the audience of Lumberton and people who live in Robeson county since that is where the theater is located and who the audience would target. It would also target any theater people who like to go to plays and watch movies. I would say it could target anyone living in the area or tourists because it is a good place to go and see plays and watch movies and have a good time and actually see some history.

Berea Campus Outreach

Berea Campus Outreach (BCO) is where college kids can go on Thursday nights to hang out with other Christians on Campus and sing praise and worship songs and hear a sermon from the assistant pastor Hector Murray.  BCO meets every Thursday and also goes on a few trips every semester to Christian events like concerts and mountain hiking. After they do praise and worship and hears what Hector says there is usually a meal served. So BCO is just a really good place to go and have fellowship and hang out with people who have the same beliefs.

I would interview Hector Murray because he plans everything for BCO and I would also interview the band that plays there every week which include students from UNCP. I would talk about what happens every Thursday night and talk about some of the trips that the group takes.

My target audience would be the students at UNCP because BCO is for them and for the Christians of the campus and to get more Christians involved. So this story could target any of the students that come to UNCP.

What it takes to be an Resident Adviser

A Resident Adviser (RA) is a person on campus who is in charge of a certain floor or building and the students in it. You can go to your RA with questions about basically anything on campus. However to become a resident adviser is kind of hard. You have to take certain classes and keep a certain GPA all through college and also know what is going on around campus. Resident advisers are located in all the dorms on campus and also two apartment complex's (Courtyard and Village apartments). They have to have office hours on their floors and also work at the front desks and it is a paying job.

For this story I would show what it really takes to be a resident adviser by interviewing some of the RA's on campus and also some of the people that train the RA's. I would also interview students who are not RA's so they can give their opinion of what they think about them and if they would ever consider becoming one. I would also show how many RA's are needed on campus each year.

My targeted audience for this story would all of UNCP campus but mostly students. It would show what it is like to be an RA so for students who can see themselves becoming one it would be a good article for them to look at for advice.

Robeson County Fair

Every year Robeson County has an agricultural fair. The fair consists of rides and games, to me it's like a miniature version of the North Carolina State Fair. I thought about doing a feature story on the fair and what can be done there and why it would be a good date night or just something fun to do.
The fair is located in Lumberton at the fair grounds and the fair happens every year. It costs six dollars to get into the fair then it costs money for the rides and for food as well. Also every night there is a different event going on. One night they do the monster truck show, another night they could have a concert, and many other events happen at the fair.

For this story I would focus on the events that happen at the fair. I would interview the people that organize the events and I would also interview people that work at the fair. Also I would interview people that go to the fair and see what they like most about going.

My targeted audience would be Robeson County residents including the students at UNCP. It would show what is offered at the fair and show all the prices of things so people can plan to go and have a good time.

Vertical Church

Vertical church is a non-denominational church that started about a year ago in Lumberton, NC. The church happens in the town and country movie theater every Sunday and everyone is welcome. I would say Vertical is not your typical church. Their mission is to get people who don't like church to meet God. Every Sunday the church starts setting up in the movie theater around 6 a.m. and break down everything right after the last service ends so that the movie theater can open up around 2. Vertical church has 2 services every Sunday. One at 9:30 and another at 11, the services usually last for an hour and a half. They have two preachers that switch off giving sermons e every week, Donnie Paschall and Mike Pittman. Vertical also offers bible study groups that meet up during the week. Members are always inviting people to try Vertical and the congregation is always growing.

For this story I would focus on the actual church itself. I would interview both the pastors for the church and also some of the bible study leaders. I would ask how the church got started and what the plans for vertical church are. I would also interview people that attend vertical church and ask why they like it so much.

My targeted audience would be the people of Robeson County. Also people who are looking for a church to join, this could target a lot of freshmen that are coming to UNCP. Vertical church targets people of Christian faith so that is who this story would target as well.

Boy Bands Coming Back

I have noticed lately that many boy bands have started to become popular again in music and for a feature story I think it would be interesting if a story focused on boy bands of music and how they have changed, what music they do, and why have they come back as popular. Boy bands like Nsync, the Backstreet Boys, and the New Kids on the Block were all pretty popular in the 90's and boy bands were all over the music stations. However since then you haven't really seen them until recently boy bands started popping up again like One direction, the Wanted, and Big Time Rush. Also recently boy bands have started to get back together like the Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block, who last year did a tour together. I would like to focus on why boy bands sale so many albums and why ten years later there a hit again.

I would interview people of many ages for this such as adults who liked boy bands in the 80's and 90's and kids today who are now just getting into the boy band era. I would ask what makes them like boy bands and who their favorite group is. I would do a lot of research for this and also look up statistics like who had number one hits and what made that band who they are.

I think females who are mostly interested in boy bands so that is who my targeted audience would be. It would be girls of all ages and I feel that the article would just be interesting to see what all the buzz is about and what makes boy bands so popular.

Zumba: The new fun way to work out

In the last year or so there has been a new way of working out that women love to do, Zumba, a dance and cardio that is both fun and beneficial. There are now such things as Zumbathons which is when many people meet at a gym or somewhere and just dance for a cause. There are now Zumba instructors that are like personal trainers but they just do zumba. For me I have noticed that it is hard to walk into a gym and not see a class for Zumba. Even some colleges have taken it for students to take as a class.  For a story I would like to talk about why Zumba has become such a trend for people, mostly women, aging from young teenagers to senior citizens. Also where zumba came from and how it originated in the United States.

For this story I would interview people who take zumba classes and ask questions like why they like it so much. Also I would interview a zumba instructor as well because they can give more insight to the workout and explain why they like doing it and also they can answer why and how they became an instructor.

My audience would target anyone who likes to be in shape or wants to be in shape and is serious about their health because Zumba is a good way to get healthy and it is also fun. When you go to a Zumba class you see mostly women so that would be my target audience as well. However, men can get involved in Zumba as well.

Halloween Costumes

Halloween costumes have become a very hot topic around this time of year. Halloween is a fun filled Holiday that gives people an excuse to become something they are not for one night. When your young kids dress up as ghosts or princesses, however adults also dress up as well, just not as innocent as children. Many people think Halloween is just a for kids but really it can be fun for adults too. There are probably more costumes for adults then there are for kids and fun can be found for any person. A lot of bars and clubs offer party for adults so they can dress up and go an have a good time. Also school and colleges still have halloween contests also. There are costumes for groups of friends, couples, and also individuals. So really if someone wants to they can dress up.

For this story I would like to talk to stores that sale Halloween costumes and see what has been their most popular costumes. I would also talk to individuals and see what they are dressing as, also couples and groups to see what they are dressing as too. I would talk to stores like party city and spirit of Halloween store. Also I would get the prices of costumes and see which ones are cheapest and in people budget.

My target audience would be anyone that is looking to dress up for Halloween, both male and female, young and old. It can be for parents who are looking to dress their kids up and take them trick or treating, or teenagers who want to go hang out with their friends, or adults who are going to a Halloween party.

Major Changes

Going into college a lot of people don't know what they want to be when they grow up or what they want to study in college and by the end of their sophomore year or beginning of junior year they should have a major picked out. However a lot of people change their majors in college at least once because they still are not sure what they want to do. However a lot of people don't know that the more you change your major the longer that person is here at school. Also with school curriculum's changing almost every year more classes are added or taken away for some majors and some classes are only offered every other semester. Then this results in students paying more money every year to the college.

For this story I would interview students who have changed their majors and ask them what the good and bad things are about changing a major and what they have had to go through since changing the major. I would also interview the financial aid office to see what they have to say about the money situation that students go through when changing a major.

This story would target college students, mostly at UNCP, and also their parents who usually pay for the students to come to college. This story would really benefit them because it would educate them in how changing a major can effect them.

Studying Abroad

For students at UNCP studying abroad has been an option for every semester. Different classes are offered each semester in different countries. I feel that students should know about this opportunity because it is such a good experience and a good story would be what is being offered over Christmas break, next semester and next summer. Studying abroad looks really good on resume's after college and it opens students minds to another culture.

For this story I would interview students that have studied abroad before and see what they have to say about it, I would also ask where they went and what they studied. I would interview Robin Deemer who is in charge of the study abroad program and has also studied abroad herself. I would ask where the places are that students can go to int the future.  I would ask her opinion of why she thinks it is important for students to study abroad. I would also interview a student who is planning on studying abroad. I would write about what it takes for a student to study abroad and everything that they have to go through to be able to study abroad.

This story would target the students at UNCP who would like to one day study abroad and it would give them an insight to what it would be like. It would have a list of the countries that are being offered to travel to and also the classes that will be taught there.
